Securing access to synthetic DNA rests on three layers: deterring bad actors from trying, denying dangerous orders through order and customer screening, and giving law enforcement the tools to detect and intercept threats.

This grant supports a researcher with deep expertise in synthesis screening and national security in assessing which interventions beyond screening are most promising for strengthening nucleic acid synthesis security.
