We provided RAND with a gift of $445,000 to be spent at the discretion of RAND president and CEO Jason Matheny. Matheny has allocated this funding to support research and analysis on creating an early warning system for dangerous capabilities in frontier AI-enabled biological design tools (BDTs); raising awareness among labs and BDT developers to drive risk mitigation efforts; improving governance of nucleic acid synthesis; and informing future biosecurity policy in Europe and globally.
