Independent biosecurity researcher

​We provided $75,000 for a biosecurity researcher to research and develop a new system for validating the legitimacy of life science customers and streamlining biosecurity Know-Your-Customer practices. This work aims to increase the prevalence of high-quality customer screening while reducing administrative burden. The project is being carried out in consultation with leading providers of nucleic acid synthesis and biosecurity screening tools.

We expect this project will advance frameworks for customer verification that balance security with scientific access. We also expect to explore the prospects of developing an end-to-end KYC service that could be taken up by an existing organization or launched as a standalone venture.
