Biosecurity and AI
We provided $286,619 to a biosecurity research team to assess how AI-based Biological Design Tools (BDTs) could increase biosecurity risks. The project partner will create a risk assessment framework that categorizes varying biological types by risk level and evaluates under which specific circumstances they might meaningfully advance concerning capabilities.
We expect this work to close critical knowledge gaps about how AI-based tools contribute to biosecurity risks. The project aims to produce clear, accessible guides for policymakers and inform more targeted mitigation strategies.
