1. Purpose
This Code sets out the behavioral and ethical standards expected of anyone acting on behalf of Sentinel Bio, including staff, contractors, advisors, and board members. It helps us translate our mission—making pandemics history—into everyday practice, safeguarding our people, partners, and beneficiaries.
2. Guiding Values
We share the following guiding values:
- Sustainable ambition – we pursue the mission to our limits but no further, seeking the assistance we need and embracing that we will sometimes fail.
- Unwavering integrity – we seek and speak the truth even when it is costly to us.
- Relentless prioritisation – we diligently deploy our precious resources, including our time, funds, and the trust of our partners.
- Calibrated humility – we recognise our limitations without overstating them and generously share both credit and opportunities for impact with others.
We strive to foster diverse, equitable, and supportive environments free from prejudice, harassment, or discrimination. We actively seek out perspectives from different backgrounds, disciplines, and regions, recognizing that effective biosecurity solutions require insights from across the global community. We create space for everyone to contribute their best work, challenge ideas respectfully, and grow professionally, while holding ourselves accountable when we fall short of these standards.
3. Standards of Conduct
We insist on professional conduct in all settings. Every team member must treat colleagues, partners, and grantees with dignity, courtesy, and fairness, remaining conscious of the power dynamics that can arise in our work.
We proactively disclose any personal or financial interests that could influence our judgment. If a conflict of interest exists, we recuse ourselves from the decision-making unless the Board grants written clearance.
As funders, we vet grantees and partners for mission alignment and ethical conduct, and we carefully evaluate projects for biosecurity and biosafety considerations in accordance with our commitment to the Bio Funders Compact.
